Easy Setup — Just 6 Steps

Follow these simple steps. No technical knowledge needed.

1

Download Claude Desktop

Click the "Download Claude Desktop for Mac" button above. Your browser will download the installer file. Wait for it to finish downloading.

If you use Windows, click the Windows download button instead. Cowork works on both Mac and Windows.

The file will appear in your "Downloads" folder.
2

Install the App

On Mac: Double-click the downloaded .dmg file, then drag the Claude icon into your Applications folder. On Windows: Double-click the .exe file and follow the installer prompts.

If your Mac asks for permission, click Open to allow the installation.
3

Sign In to Your Account

Open the Claude app from your Applications folder (Mac) or Start Menu (Windows). Click "Sign In" and log in with your Claude account.

You need a paid Claude plan to use Cowork. If you do not have one yet, you can sign up for Claude Pro at claude.ai for $20 per month.

Free Claude accounts cannot use Cowork. You need at least a Pro subscription.
4

Switch to "Cowork" Mode

Once signed in, look at the top of the Claude window. You will see two tabs: "Chat" and "Cowork". Click on the "Cowork" tab to switch to task mode.

In Cowork mode, Claude can work on longer, more complex tasks — like organizing your files or creating spreadsheets.
5

Give Claude a Task

Type what you want Claude to do in the message box. For example: "Organize my Downloads folder by file type" or "Create a summary of all the PDF files on my Desktop".

Claude will show you its plan before starting. Review it, and if it looks good, let it run. You can watch Claude work or step away and come back later.

Start with something simple like "Tell me what files are in my Documents folder" to see how it works.
6

Review the Results

When Claude finishes, it will show you what it did and where it saved any files. You can find the results right on your computer — no downloading needed.

Keep the Claude app open while it is working. If you close it, the task will stop.
